The Skwirk / Beechwood Homes Racing Team has won the first round of the 2015 Pirelli GT Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on the weekend.

Nathan Antunes’ Audi R8 LMS Ultra was clearly one of the fastest cars around the street circuit. Nathan won the first two races and finished third in the third race to take the round win.

Nathan started the first race from 4th position but quickly moved through the field to take the lead. He held on to take the chequered flag and his first Championship class victory. Later on Saturday afternoon, Antunes started the second race from pole and would have led from coast to coast in the 1 hour race except for receiving a controversial stop and go penalty. That setback was not enough to stop Antunes, who quickly re-took the lead and took his second chequered flag for the day.

Race 3 was held on Sunday morning and Nathan started from pole position. Unfortunately, there was a huge pile up shortly after the first bend and 7 cars were involved in a huge accident with the clean up bill expected to be in the millions. Fortunately Antunes missed the carnage, but due to the pit stop rules of the race (that disadvantage the more experienced drivers and those finishing higher on the grid), when the race resumed with less than 10 minutes to go, Nathan was back in 16th position.  Antunes proceeded to fly through the field and moved up to third by the time the chequered flag was raised. Whilst the Darrell Lea entry got the chocolates in Race 3, Nathan’s drive could only be described as scintillating.

Congratulations to Nathan, the Melbourne Performance Centre and all the crew for having the Audi in such great shape.

The next round takes place at Phillip Island, Victoria on 22-23 May.

As the third instalment of the Sydney Derby draws near, Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold believes the other teams in the league should be fearful of his squad’s strike power as the Sky Blues prepare to take on the Wanderers this weekend.

Arnold said he was looking forward to travelling to Parramatta, with the Sky Blues not having contested a Sydney Derby since November 2014, as he stressed the need for defensive solidarity following victory over the Central Coast Mariners at the weekend.

With plenty of flash points in the previous two Sydney Derbies this season, Arnold has called for his squad to focus on the footballing side of the spectacle and expunge all emotion from the contest as he said the Wanderers won’t be fazed by their midweek ACL commitments.

Round 1 of the 2015 Australian GT Championship takes place this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Nathan Antunes will once again be driving the Skwirk / Beechwood Homes Audi around the Adelaide circuit. With scorching temperatures and an unforgiving track, there should be plenty of thrills and spills.

This weekend’s round will be contested over three races – two on Saturday and one on Sunday morning (all televised on Fox Sports), in between the V8s and other categories.

Hopefully Nathan, who qualified in 4th position, can stay away from the wall and claim top spot.

Whilst most people know we are a proud premium partner of the Sydney FC football team, not many people know that we are the major supporter of the women’s W-League team.

The team finished this year’s competition just one match short of the grand final.

Recently, six Sky Blues obtained selection in the national team for a recent international series against DPR Korea and New Zealand.

Congratulations to Nicola Bolger, Teresa Polias, Servet Uzunlar, Kyah Simon and especially Casey Dumont and Amy Harrison who made their Matilda debuts.

The Matildas won both games and head into the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada later this year in great shape.

Beechwood wishes to congratulate all of the Sky Blues on a great year and we look forward to bigger and better things to come.

Fresh from last week’s exciting 3-all draw against the Melbourne Victory in the Big Blue, the Sky Blues take on arch rivals Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, 21 February at Allianz Stadium.

Coach Graham Arnold will be hoping Sydney FC can continue their winning streak against his former club and keep pushing for a top two finish.

We are tipping a Sydney FC victory and for Mark Janko and Shane Smeltz to both continue their recent goal scoring form.
