The Newcastle Knights have recorded their fourth consecutive victory of the season with the 26-14 victory over the Penrith Panthers at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.

The Newcastle Knights once again made a late comeback to defeat the Gold Coast Titans 20-18 at Robina last Sunday night to remain at the top of the NRL table with a 3 wins out of 3 games record.

The Knights conceded an early try, but after Beau Scott opened the scoring for the Novacastrians and when Dane Gagai showed great footwork to go over, it looked like the Knights would dominate proceedings. However, the Titans struck back twice in the second half and held the lead until the last 5 minutes. However, Newcastle rallied late and Jeremy Smith crashed over under the posts to claim the match winning try.

The Knights third victory for the season was all the more remarkable given it represented the third week in a row the Knights trailed late into the game. The Knights and the South Sydney Rabbitohs are the only undefeated teams in the NRL after 3 weeks.

Newcastle return to Hunter Stadium this Saturday afternoon to take on the third place Penrith Panthers.

The Newcastle Knights have maintained their undefeated record with a stirring 16-14 comeback victory over the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday.

The Knights recovered from a 14-0 deficit after the Cowboys got off to the flyer with two opportune (lucky) tries.

A deft Jarrod Mullen kick was instrumental in setting up the Knights’ first try to Joey Leilua  before half time. The Knights steadied after the interval and Akuila Uate crossed to narrow the margin to 4 points. Later, Joey Luilua crossed for what was ultimately the match winner with 10 minutes left, and the Knights were then left to defend for lengthy periods to seal the hard fought win.

The Knights travel to the Gold Coast this weekend to take on the troubled Titans.

Sydney FC have continued their winning streak with an exciting 5-4 victory over the A-League defending champions, Brisbane Roar, at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Sydney trailed 1-0 early, but then raced to a 4-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining. The Roar cut the margin twice before Alex Brosque sealed the victory. Another late goal by the Roar left fans on the edge of their seat (and coach Graham Arnold fuming) but the Sky Blues held on to move into outright second place.

Striker Marc Janko became the first player in A-League history to score in seven consecutive games with a hat-trick, moving to 16 goals for the season also eclipsing Alessandro Del Piero’s club record of 14 goals in a season for Sydney FC.

The Newcastle Knights began the 2015 NRL season with a 24-14 hard fought win over the New Zealand Warriors at Hunter Stadium last Saturday.

The Knights overcame significant adversity, including a dubious 8 point try to the Warriors and a second half sin-binning, to claim the victory. Coach Rick Stone said after the match “Sometimes the will is more important than the skill and execution and I thought we showed plenty of that will today.”

Centre Dane Gagai and winger Aku Uate were the best for the Knights.

Hunter Stadium proved to be a happy hunting ground for Beechwood supported teams last weekend, with Sydney FC also defeating the Newcastle Jets in the A-League at the same venue the previous night.

Sydney FC were then pegged back by the Wanderers who scored two goals before half time and one shortly after the break to level the scores.

However the tie was settled in the 74th minute when Terry Antonis latched onto a mistake in the Western Sydney defence to secure the three points.
